Dear Editor

I hope that the “Labour spokesperson for Luddendenfoot” (formerly the Hebden Bridge Labour Party spokesperson for art) has not offended the several community groups within the Luddendenfoot Ward with his naive, critical letter within your pages on 20th December. He seems totally unaware of these diverse communities which do not form a “town” like Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd.

In spite of being cut out of Upper Calder Valley Regeneration plans, several of these groups, with the support of their local Liberal Democrat councillors, have been very successful in organising projects and achieving funding towards their fruition. Maybe if he asked our local MP she would be able to inform him of these ventures. Maybe she would also be able to explain to him why Calderdale has not benefited from regeneration grants from Central Government in the same way and to the same level as its neighbours in Leeds, Kirklees, Bradford and Wakefield.

Maybe Chris McCafferty should also expound on why Labour has only managed to come a lamentable fourth place in recent Calderdale elections in Luddendenfoot and why a further deterioration seems likely due to the recent Con/Lab pact within Calderdale MBC, a pact that will see the Luddendenfoot library close.

Kind regards
